     The use of
E-cigarettes, or vaping, has been notoriously gaining popularity in recent
years. A majority of individuals who vape are under the age of 35, although it
is popular amongst adolescents and young adults. There is even a popular story
of the 16-year-old teenager who received a double lung transplant due to
extensive vaping injury. On November 8, 2019, the CDC published official
findings on the harmful use of e-cigarettes, particularly the identification of
vitamin E acetate (an additive in some THC-containing products) as a potential
chemical of concern in patients with vaping-related lung injury. The CDC has
published a number of cases related to E-cigarette associated lung injury.
However, little is known about the actual quantitative effects of vaping on the
body, particularly, cardiovascular health.

When smoking is
considered in the medical field, it is associated with cancers and
cardiovascular diseases. In an attempt to investigate specifically the
cardiovascular effects of vaping, a recent study compared the acute effects of
e-cigarettes (non-THC containing products) versus burned tobacco cigarettes on
platelet function. This is a way to measure the atherosclerotic process in
cardiovascular disease. 40 healthy subjects, composed of 20 smokers and 20
nonsmokers, inhaled a burnt cigarette at one time and e-cigarette at another.
Before and after each inhalation, blood samples were drawn to determine the
baseline and post-exposure levels of sCD40L and sP-selectin. sCD40L and
sP-selectin are involved in platelet activation. The study confirmed that after
E-cigarette use, there was an acute increase in both sCD40L and sP-selectin in
smoking and nonsmoking subjects. These levels, as expected, did have a higher
increase after smoking tobacco cigarettes.

The study
concludes that there is an acute effect on platelet activation simply by
vaping. It does not exactly tell us what component of the product is causing
it, but there is certainly an association. The study predicts that it will have
long-term effects on cardiovascular health, although these results are acute.
More studies will be done to learn more about the long-term effects of vaping
and what chemicals are causing damage. As of November 2019, the CDC does not
recommend the use of e-cigarettes, especially vaping products that contain THC.
This recommendation is mostly in large due to evidence of lung injury, and not
necessarily because of cardiovascular risks.

Sure, your vagina can stretch and accommodate quite a few things, but being able to do it doesn’t mean you should. “When considering what is safe to put in the vagina, it’s important to remember that the vagina is a delicate and sensitive part of the body,” Dr. Rakhee Patel, a board-certified OB-GYN with Pinewood Family Care Co. Shape, size, and cleanliness of the object are all things to consider here, because sticking the wrong thing in there can result in a host of health issues, from major injuries and tears in your vaginal canal to infections and irritation… not to speak of the embarrassment at your OB-GYN’s office.

So, quick disclaimer: make sure anything going in your vagina is clean, smooth, and skin-safe. “Our bodies’ natural bacterial balance can easily be thrown off by the foreign bacteria lodged in the crevices of toys or food,” sex coach Jenna Switzer told SheKnows in a previous interview. “Be mindful that you clean items thoroughly with a non-scented soap and use condoms on any objects that you use for penetration.” Condoms will also reveal any hidden, sharp edges on the object, potentially saving your vulva and vagina from a painful encounter.

A penis

Penises are totally allowed to enter mouths, vaginas, and buttholes. Just remember to put a condom on it to avoid STIs and unwanted pregnancies. A note: Flavored condoms should only be used for oral sex, as the flavor chemicals can irritate your vaginal lining.

Fingers

Fingers (attached to hands, of course!) also feel pretty good. As long as the person’s nails are trimmed short with sharp corners filed away and kept clean, digits are a good time. You can improve your safe sex practices by washing your hands beforehand (or wearing latex gloves!) and adding lube.

Boric acid suppositories

Boric acid suppositories, like The Killer from Love Wellness, are used to treat vaginal yeast infections and/or odor, and are safe to use under the direction of a doctor. You simply insert one deep inside your vagina, “preferably at bedtime,” OB-GYN Dr. Anna Cabeca tells SheKnows. “Wearing a pad can help with any leakage,” she adds, noting that she usually prescribes 600 mg capsules to be inserted twice a day for 10 to 14 days.

Dr. Cabeca recommends using a suppository “as directed by a healthcare professional, especially if you have other conditions like diabetes or are pregnant.” You should also avoid using them if you have any open sores or cuts around your vagina, because this can cause irritation. And of course, if you experience pain, bleeding, or no improvement in your symptoms after a few days, it’s a good idea to check back in with your doctor. (PS: avoid having intercourse while using the suppositories and make sure to only use them vaginally, as boric acid is toxic if swallowed.)

This single-ingredient boric acid suppository is a bestseller for a reason. It’s ideal for balancing yeast levels and controlling vaginal odor, but doesn’t contain any fragrance or essential oils that could mess with your pH balance down there.

Lubricants

There are still lots of myths about lubricants. We’re here to tell you that oil-based lubes are actually OK, and maybe even a better choice for some, according to Lilly (who goes only by her first time), a sex toy expert and blogger at Dangerous Lilly.

“Synthetic oil-based lubes have been proven to cause vaginal infections in some, but there is much less chance for an interaction when a natural oil is used,” she tells SheKnows. “They shouldn’t be used by anyone relying on latex or polyisoprene condoms for STI and pregnancy protection, though.”

She adds that silicon-based lubricants are actually safe to use and that contrary to popular belief, “many water-based lubes are incompatible with vaginal pH or have irritating ingredients that make some folks more susceptible to vaginal infections and can increase STI transmission.” Note that silicon-based lube shouldn’t be used with silicone sex toys, though, as it can make the toys degrade. You should also avoid using lubes with sugars in them (like scented lubes), as they can also mess with your pH and lead to infection.

Period products

A good rule of thumb is that if an item was “designed specifically for vaginal use,” you can generally assume it’s safe, Patel says. That includes lubes (see above) and period products that go directly in your vagina, such as tampons and menstrual cups or discs. “These items are made with materials and ingredients that are tested for vaginal safety,” Patel explains.

Sex toys

According to statistics, the global adult sex toy market was valued at $32.7 billion in 2022. That’s a lot of satisfied customers using a lot of sex toys… although not all of them are created equal.

Sex toy materials are a complex and wide-ranging topic, but in short, the safest materials are the ones that are considered chemically stable and don’t harbor bacteria and fungi in the pores, Lilly says. This includes silicone, body-safe metal alloys like titanium, aluminum blends, stainless steel, glass, properly sealed ceramic, and wood. You also want to make sure you’re cleaning your sex toys (here’s a guide from Lilly) and replacing them if they start looking a little worse for the wear.

There are actually no regulations for sex toy materials, so be wary of claims of “FDA-approved” toys, Lilly notes. Shopping at reputable stores and reading reviews from trustworthy bloggers will help you make good sex toy choices.

Food & select other objects

According to Dr. Hilda Hutcherson, board-certified OB-GYN and gynecology professor at Columbia University, your main concern when considering items other than penises, fingers, period products, and sex toys is using objects with a smooth, nonporous surface, no sharp edges, no irritants, and nothing that would degrade a condom.

“You want to make sure that whatever you put in, you can completely take out,” she tells SheKnows. “That’s why most food is a problem: It’s difficult to remove it. Peeled bananas, for example.” Other foods to avoid include spicy foods like chili peppers and spreadables like peanut butter. Be aware as well that putting food items in your vagina can “cause infections and irritations,” Patel says. If you do choose to try some penetrative food play, make sure to “clean thoroughly, check for sharp edges or nubs, and use a condom to cover any part that goes inside your body,” Switzer says.

If you are into temperature play (using hot or cold objects as part of the sexual experience), avoid putting ice directly into your vagina, as it can stick to your delicate skin. Instead, cover it with a condom to create a barrier. Very hot surfaces can also cause damage because “the [vaginal] lining is very delicate and can easily be burned,” Hutcherson adds.

Again, the safest way to play with your food is to put a condom on it. That way, you avoid risks attached to bacteria, irritation or pH imbalances. As long as the item is big enough to be removed, has no sharp or uncomfortable edges, and is not easily breakable (like a large cucumber or squash), you should be fine.

Non-vagina safe items: douches and vaginal washes

Douching or using harsh, scented soaps or vaginal washes are a no-go in your vagina, Patel says, because they can “can disrupt the natural pH and bacterial balance, leading to infections or irritation.” Fun fact: your vagina is self-cleaning, so you really don’t need any extra products down there to do it for you.

Beyond that, remember that any product not specifically designed to go in your vagina really isn’t meant to be in there — so if you’re planning on experimenting with zucchinis in bed, you’ll want to take precautions. And in general, Patel recommends being cautious with what you put in your vagina and prioritizing products specifically designed for vaginal health. “Always read labels and instructions, and when in doubt, consult with a healthcare professional,” she says. “Remember, each person is different, so what works for one might not work for another. It’s essential to listen to your body and seek professional advice if you have concerns or experience discomfort.”

To ensure best health outcomes in a healthcare setting, it is important to establish open, effective, and respectful communication between a patient and a healthcare practitioner.

As a patient, it is not only your right but in your best interest to ask your doctor for clarification or further explanation on your health condition and treatment plan. As a healthcare provider, it is your responsibility to provide a safe and comfortable environment for your patients to openly discuss their health concerns and make sure your diagnosis and treatment plan is well understood.

That said, menopause can trigger many complex and confusing symptoms that can be uncomfortable to talk about, which can make managing the symptoms difficult. Here are some tips for both patients and practitioners to start the conversation around menopause and its symptoms that we discussed in our previous post, Menopausal Symptoms.

When should I talk to my doctor about menopause?1

First of all, don’t feel awkward. Menopause is a natural phase of life, and your doctor is likely familiar with all possible symptoms. Describe your condition and symptoms in detail and explain how they are affecting your lifestyle and relationships. The provider needs to rule out any other underlying conditions before determining it is menopause.

Reach out to your doctor if:

  • You haven’t had your period for two consecutive months
  • You have more than one period in a month or your cycle is unusually irregular
  • You have uncomfortable vaginal dryness
  • The symptoms are interfering with your daily activities
  • The symptoms are affecting your sexual life and intimate relationship
  • You consistently get brain fog and feel sad
  • You often start sweating suddenly, and it doesn’t feel normal
  • You are gaining weight unusually
  • Other therapies are not helping with the symptoms

Don’t forget to tell your doctor if you have any allergies or other health conditions. Also mention any medications or supplements you’re already taking for menopause symptoms or other conditions.

What shall I ask my doctor?

Medical appointments can be stressful, and we often feel rushed. When you have a delicate issue to bring up, being prepared can help. Here are some of the questions you can ask your practitioner:

  1. How do I know when I start menopause?
  2. What is the difference between perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause? And how do I know which phase I am going through?
  3. What are the different challenges of each phase?
  4. How can I tell hot flashes apart from normal sweating?
  5. What can I do to relieve my symptoms such as hot flashes and vaginal dryness?
  6. Why do I feel so much menopausal anxiety, and how can I overcome this?
  7. What are my treatment options, and how long does each option takes to work?
  8. Are there any side effects with these options?
  9. What are the safe, nonhormonal solutions to manage menopausal symptoms that I can try first?
  10. When should I seek further medical assistance?

How can healthcare providers ensure the right care during menopause?

Often, the reluctance from healthcare professionals to address these female issues can also cause lack of awareness. It is the healthcare provider’s obligation to make sure patients feel comfortable in discussing their menopausal concerns and understand the treatment plan.2

According to a survey by NIH, patients are likely to discuss menopause transition with providers who don’t make them feel rushed, are good listeners, and have expertise in this area of women’s health.

Here are some ways to help your patients receive the best care:

  1. Keep your tone friendly.
  2. Be empathetic and sensitive about their health challenges.
  3. Use plain language and avoid medical jargon (do not assume that your patients are familiar with the complex medical terms).
  4. Create communication material beforehand at 5th– to 8th-grade level of understanding.
  5. Give women time to reflect and find words to articulate concerns.
  6. Ask both closed-ended and open-ended questions to discover more.
  7. Make sure to ask if they understand the treatment plan and what concerns they have about the treatment options or compliance. Offer to repeat the plan.

What to ask your patients:3

  • Do you get sudden outbursts of sweat to the level that it makes you feel embarrassed?
  • Do you have vaginal dryness accompanied with discomfort, and is it affecting your sexual life?
  • Do you get brain fog and feelings of sadness? What do you feel like when this happens? How do you cope with it?
  • Do you feel a lack of interest in daily activities? What does your day look like?
  • Do you have any concerns about the treatment plan we discussed?
  • Do you want me to go over the treatment plan again?

Menopause is a natural phase in a woman’s life, and its challenges need to be accepted and understood at work, at home, and on a social as well as a societal level. Black Bean and Spinach Enchiladas

Part of our Magnesium Food Series to promote relaxation and better sleep.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cooked black beans (120 mg magnesium)
  • 1 cup cooked spinach (157 mg magnesium)
  • 1 avocado, sliced (58 mg magnesium)
  • 8 small whole wheat tortillas
  • 1 cup enchilada sauce
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a pan, sauté cooked spinach and black beans with chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Place the mixture into tortillas, roll them up, and lay them in a baking dish.
  4. Pour enchilada sauce over the tortillas and top with cheese if desired.
  5. Bake for 15–20 minutes, until heated through. Serve with avocado slices.

The struggle with pull-ups and chin-ups is definitely real.

Even people who are very strong in other exercises can find pull-up progress frustratingly slow.

I know how dispiriting it can be – I was stuck on assisted versions (with my foot in a band) for ages. The leap between those and full-unassisted reps seemed gigantic.

But, I got past it and I’m here to share what I learned so you can too.

Now, you know I talk straight, so I’ll tell you right from the start, the tips I’m going to give you aren’t going to make it an easy ride. We’re talking about lugging your whole bodyweight from the floor – that’s no mean feat, so be ready to work for it. But, let me tell you, when you break through that barrier and find you’re able to do those first couple of “proper” pull-up reps it’s so worth it.

Pulls vs Chins

Before we get stuck in, let’s just define what we’re talking about here.

A pull-up is where your hands are placed on the bar just outside shoulder width apart, palms facing away from you.

For a chin-up your hands are placed shoulder width apart on the bar, palms facing you.

For quickness, I’ll mostly use the term pull-up in this post, but the tips apply to both moves.

They’re similar exercises, but the pull-up works the muscles of back more and chin-ups work the biceps harder. Weight is a Factor

Because they fire up so many muscles and make them work super-hard, these exercises torch calories and are great for building true functional, athletic strength.

Of course, how challenging they are for you is going to depend on the balance between the weight of your body and how strong you are.

One of the things I really love about pull-ups is they help reveal what the weighing scale can’t tell us… If find you’ve gained a little weight, but at the same time you’re seeing good progress in your pull-ups that’s a strong sign that the extra weight is actually lean muscle growth.

So, if you’re stepping on the scale hoping it’ll tell you you’re leaner, in that situation you can celebrate your progress, knowing that added muscle gain will help you burn off fat.

Pulling Power

Pulling muscles get neglected in many workout programmes, which is really bad news. If you don’t balance pushing exercises (press-ups, shoulder press, chest press, dips, etc.) with pulling exercises your posture will suffer and you’re more likely to get an aching and/or damaged back and shoulder injuries. Ouch!

The pull-up is a very natural movement pattern. Our bodies are well designed for this kind of move. If a strength exercise requires a machine or rack in order for you to do it safely (or at all), it’s worth questioning how functional it actually is. With pull-ups it’s just you and the bar, or tree branch if you really want to get primal!

For me personally, I also love the body shape this exercise sculpts. I have what 90’s women’s mags regularly informed me is a “pear shaped” body – i.e. I tend to store more fat around my hips, bum and thighs than in my upper body. I’ll never be an “hour glass”, but pull-ups help build and define my shoulders and back muscles for a more balanced silhouette.

But that’s just gravy really. Once you get into an exercise like this and start feeling the benefits, the aesthetics become a happy side-effect of your ambition to perform better and progress in the move.

It’s Not Normal

Progression is the key mindset here.

Please don’t expect to be able to do pull-ups and chin-ups the first time you try.

(If you’re thinking that’s ridiculously obvious, you’d be amazed at how many people fully expect to be able to smash out reps on their shiny new pull-up bar straight out of the box!)

Always remember, this is an advanced exercise. Sure, pics and vids of people doing pull-ups are splattered everywhere online, but out in the real world very few people can do them. It’s an especially rare ability among women.

Please respect that… And, as you make progress, appreciate what an exceptional ability you’re gaining.

Be ready to be tenacious, yet humble, yet strong minded, yet unafraid to confront your weaknesses.

Pull-ups at Home

Any decent gym will have a pull-up bar of some kind, outdoor gyms usually have them, and kids playgrounds usually have a climbing frame or bars you can use (when not packed with kiddies!).

But pull-ups are great for home training, that’s certainly where I do them.

Home pull-up bars have come on leaps and bounds over the last few years.

If you want invest in a fancy pull-up station the options are endless.

I started with an over-the-door frame, which served me well for ages. These are very inexpensive (under £20).

The only problem I found with these was my door frames are quite low so it was tricky to get full range of movement and the door in my training area wasn’t suitable so I had to go to another room. (Wasn’t a big deal, we can always work around these things.)

However, I recently got a Pull-up Mate pull-up bar which I love!

It’s a sturdy freestanding frame which you can assemble and disassemble in just 5 minutes. It all packs up into a big holdall which I store under the spare bed. It has more height that my old door frame bar so now I don’t have to leave my training space to do my pull-up training.

There’ll be No Closure

Nailing your first rep is going to take time and hard training, but my advice is not think of it in terms of “it only counts once I can do full pull-ups”.

By all means, leverage your desire to do this bad-ass move to keep you motivated, just don’t get so hung up on that goal that you forget you’re getting all the benefits of increased strength, better posture and muscle balance, torching calories, etc. as you take all the steps I’m about to outline on your road to being able to do unassisted reps.

Spoiler alert: All that’s going to happen when you nail that first rep is you’ll start focussing on doing two, then three, and so on.

What I’m saying is, it’s a journey, not a destination.

So enjoy the ride.

New COVID-19 Monoclonal Antibody Data Could Shift Clinical Practice

New data from phase 3 trials of monoclonal antibodies for patients with recent COVID-19 diagnoses, or at high risk for SARS-CoV-2 infection, could move the needle on clinician acceptance of the treatments, experts say.

Two monoclonal antibody formulations, Eli Lilly’s bamlanivimab and Regeneron’s cocktail of two antibodies, casirivimab and imdevimab, received emergency use authorizations from the US Food and Drug Administration in November to treat mild to moderate COVID-19 in outpatients. But current recommendations from the Infectious Diseases Society of America’s COVID-19 treatment and guideline panel, based on data from a phase 2 trial of bamlanivimab, suggest against the routine use of the drug.

Data from phase 3 trials, for which the companies announced topline results in press releases last week, could result in a revision of the IDSA guidelines when published more formally and the committee convenes on the issue again, said Jason C. Gallagher, PharmD, a clinical professor at Temple University’s School of Pharmacy and a member of the IDSA panel. It already appears to be encouraging clinician acceptance throughout the country, physicians said.

The new data from Regeneron indicate that people who were recently exposed to SARS-CoV-2 and received its monoclonal antibodies had fewer confirmed infections than people in the trial who received placebo. In Lilly’s trial, high-risk patients newly diagnosed with COVID-19 who received a combination of its monoclonal antibodies bamlanivimab and etesevimab had fewer COVID-related hospitalizations and deaths than those who got a placebo.

“It’s validating what already looked to be going that way,” said Gallagher. “It makes sense that if you give someone passive immunity, it’s going to keep them from being admitted.” However, he did not want to speak for the IDSA committee before they meet, and noted it would need more information than was provided in the press releases.

Physicians critiqued the results of phase 2 trials of monoclonal antibodies for the quality of the analysis and limited scope of the research. Those early findings were “inherently fragile,” Gallagher said, but the results of the phase 3 trials, once published, will provide the most reliable information on the drugs to date.

Regeneron’s results came from an exploratory analysis of 409 randomized participants from an ongoing phase 3 trial testing its monoclonal antibodies for the prevention of COVID-19 in people who live with a COVID-19 patient. The company reported a 50% reduction of overall infections in the treatment group compared with placebo. No participants who received the antibody cocktail had symptomatic infections, while eight in the placebo group did.

What Is Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy?

Women may see a pelvic floor physical therapist for treatment for a variety of conditions, including vaginismus or endometriosis. Male disorders, such as painful ejaculation and premature ejaculation, can also be treated this way.

Pelvic floor physical therapists might use several techniques:

  • Education. Patients may need to learn more about their pelvic anatomy and how different components work alone and together. They may also need to learn how habits or hygiene affect their symptoms.
  • Pelvic floor exercises. Patients are taught how to contract and relax pelvic floor muscles in relation to other muscles. They are also taught breathing and timing techniques to make the exercises more effective. Such exercises can stretch tight muscles, strengthen weak ones, and improve flexibility.
  • Manual therapy. A physical therapist may use hands-on massage or stretching to help with posture, blood circulation, and mobility.

Pelvic Floor Muscle Relaxation Education

 

Helps create a body awareness of the pelvic area, thus avoiding myths or fears that cause muscle spasms that close the vaginal canal. The physiotherapist needs to educate in a understanding way the steps that the patient needs to follow to execute at the right way the treatment and improve the musculature in the pelvic floor:

 

1. Diaphragmatic Breathing: This is a type of deep breathing that engages the diaphragm muscle and pelvic floor muscles to work together and relax in a coordinated way. Here we have some steps to follow:

 

  • Start by placing one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach.

 

  • Take a breath for 3 seconds and expel it for a long time for 4 seconds, you should feel that your stomach grows when you breathe in and falls when you breathe out.

 

  • You should repeat it about 5 to 10 minutes a day.

 

  • Your pelvic floor muscles relax as you breathe in and out.

 

2. Stretching: This is also a good way to open up your pelvic floor muscles, the most common forms of stretching include:

 

  • Happy Baby Position: Lie on your back, open your knees and hold them towards your head with your hands, hold this position for around 5-10 seconds and gently guide from side to side.

 

  • Child Position: You should be on your hands and knees and spread your knees as wide as possible. Always keep your toes flat on the floor, bend down bringing your chest towards your legs and extend your arms out to the sides.

 

  • Butterfly position or adductor stretch: Relax on your back and bring your feet together, letting your knees relax out to the sides. You can put pillows to support your knees at your sides.

 

  • Needle position: While lying on your back and with your knees bent, position your left ankle over your right knee, bring your right leg toward your chest. You should feel a stretch on the outside of your left hip. You should repeat it with the contralateral side.

Pelvic floor training

With the specific training of the muscles that make up the pelvic floor, women learn to know their vaginal muscles and practice tensing and relaxing them consciously, to train the pelvic floor muscles we use Kegel exercises.

 

Kegel Exercises

 

  1. Inhale deeply through your nose, allowing your abdomen to rise as you fill with air. Keep your pelvic floor muscles relaxed as you inhale.

      2. Breathe out slowly through your mouth while gently contracting your       pelvic floor muscles.

      3. Contract your pelvic floor muscles for 3 to 6 seconds (until the muscles  are tired) as you exhale.

      4. Inhale again and release the contraction to relax the muscles.

      5. Relax your muscles completely for 6 to 10 seconds.

      6. Repeat this exercise 10 times per session.

 

If you feel pain when you do Kegel exercises, stop doing them right away. Kegel exercises are not harmful but they are not suitable for everyone, when done correctly most people find them relaxing. If you feel pain during or after the exercises, you may not be doing them correctly or they may not be right for you.

 

Dilation Exercises Using Vaginal Dilators Of Different Sizes

1. Start with the smallest size.

2. Prop yourself semi-reclined on a bed/chair/sofa. Bending your hips and  knees a little may help.

3. To prepare, you could try actively relaxing  your pelvic floor muscles using your breathing.

4. A helpful step can be to practice resting the tip of the smallest dilator at your vaginal entrance and using your breathing to keep your pelvic floor relaxed.

5. When you think your pelvic floor is relaxed, take your time to gently slip the smallest dilator (covered in lubricant) into your vagina.

6. Leave the dilator in place for 1 to 10 minutes, keeping our pelvic floor relaxed. You will be able to increase the length of time gradually with practice.

7. Bring your attention to your physical sensations as you use the dilators, or to the sensations of our breath in your body.

 8. When read, try the next size up from the one you are using. You may find it helpful to try 1 minute of the size that you are comfortable with before using the larger size immediately after.

 9. Gradually increase the size of the vaginal dilator you are using, remembering you should be comfortable with a given size for up to 10 minutes, feeling the muscles are fully relaxed around it , before you move on to the next size.

Superficial Thermotherapy And Ultrasound

Using superficial thermotherapy helps to intensify the temperature around the perineal muscles with a slightly higher body temperature, in order to achieve a vasodilating, therapeutic and relaxing effect.

With ultrasound we obtain a similar effect but the difference is that it acts deeply in the form of vibrations, when these vibrations penetrate the perineal tissue, producing heat in the area and relieving pain at the nervous level.

 

Global Postural Reeducation (RPG)

The health professional tries to correct the initial situation of conflict that will leave the discomfort. RPG aims to resolve the root cause, including discovering new postural habits that favor the patient’s well-being.

 

Therapeutic Perineal Massage

This technique helps us alleviate a little the pain and tension that can be generated in the perineal muscles, the therapist gives instructions to the patient and her partner in the event that her partner performs the massage.

 

  1. With a little lubricant, the index and middle fingers are inserted into the vagina, gently on the vaginal walls in a U-shape throughout the vaginal cavity.

      2. Work muscles at a superficial level.

      3. Do not massage for more than 10 minutes.
